Owlbryte Academy is built for children, with a parent in control. This policy explains what information we use, why we need it, who helps us handle it, and what you can choose. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the academy, we never sell personal information, and we never show advertising to children.
Parents and account holders. Your name, email address, country, account settings, purchase and refund records, referral records, and the messages you send us. If you earn referral rewards, we also use your PayPal address.
Partners. If you apply to be a partner, we use your application answers, links to your community or audience, approval records, your agreement acceptance record, payout details, and any tax information the law requires.
Children, entered by the parent. A first name or nickname, an age, an optional wizard handle, and a sign-in PIN stored only in protected (hashed) form. A diploma shows the display name you choose. Use a nickname or initials if you would not want a full name on something you might share.
Learning records, created as your child learns. Lessons and video sections watched, practice activity, challenge results, streaks, and diplomas earned. We use these to save progress and award achievements.
Technical information. Our systems and providers receive what is needed to deliver pages and videos and keep them working, such as an IP address, browser and device details, cookies, page and video requests, and error records. Playing the free daily duel without an account still involves this technical information.
What we never collect from children. An email address, phone number, home address, photo, voice recording, precise location, or free text that could be shown publicly. Children cannot post messages or comments anywhere on Owlbryte.
Payments. Stripe and PayPal collect billing details from the adult at checkout. We never receive your full card number.
To create and protect accounts, deliver lessons and games, save progress, issue diplomas, take payments and make refunds, run the referral program, answer your questions, and prevent misuse.
We email the parent about sign-in, purchases, account matters and achievements. Marketing emails need your consent and always include an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing never stops essential account messages.
We do not use anyone's information for third-party advertising, and we never give a child's information to advertisers.
For families in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running the academy), our legitimate interests (keeping the service safe and improving it), our legal obligations (tax and accounting records), and your consent (marketing emails, and public sharing of a child's achievements).
Owlbryte is designed so that a parent or legal guardian, never a child, creates the account and each child's profile. That is how we know a parent is in charge. Here is how permission works:
We collect from children only what the academy needs to work, and we never use a child's information to build a profile for advertising. We never contact children directly, never show them advertising, and never make a child's information public without a parent's explicit approval.
Your rights as a parent. You can review your child's information in your dashboard, correct it, delete it, withdraw your permission, or ask us to stop collecting it, at any time. If you withdraw permission for information a feature needs, that feature may stop working for your child, and we will tell you which one. We never make sharing, or giving optional information, a condition of learning.
If we ever learn that we have collected personal information from a child without a parent's permission, we delete it promptly.
Classroom codes. When a teacher receives a classroom code, each parent still creates and controls their own child's account. Schools never send us class lists or children's details.
Child profiles and diplomas are private by default. A diploma appears in the public Great Hall of Math Wizards, or on a share page, only after you approve it.
You choose the display style: first name, initial, wizard handle, or anonymous. Before approving, review the full preview. A shared entry can include the chosen display name, country, the diploma image, the award title and date, the joining month or year, and the number of realms completed. We use your chosen display style everywhere: the Great Hall card, the diploma image, the share page, and any download.
The Great Hall is public. A share link can be opened by anyone who receives it, even if you send it to only one person. Public pages and shared content can be copied, reshared, or found through search engines. Choosing anonymous hides the name, but may not remove every identifying detail from content you approve.
You can stop sharing at any time from your parent dashboard or by emailing us. We remove the content from our public pages and disable its Owlbryte share link. We cannot remove screenshots, downloads, social posts, or other copies held elsewhere.
We use the following providers for specific jobs, and share only the information each job needs:
Each provider may use the information only for the job we give it, under its own security commitments. Our providers process information mainly in the United States, and the video network may deliver videos from servers closer to you. Where the law requires safeguards for moving information between countries, we use them. Contact us for details.
We may also share information when the law requires it, to investigate fraud or misuse, or to protect the safety and legal rights of children, families, or Owlbryte. We share only what is needed.
Referral partners never see children's learning records or parents' contact details. They see only counts of clicks, sign-ups and purchases credited to their link.
We use a small number of first-party cookies: one to keep you signed in, and one to remember a referral for 60 days so your friend's discount applies. When a referral is saved to a parent account, the account record continues after the cookie expires.
We do not use advertising cookies, or cookies that track you across other websites. Blocking cookies may affect sign-in or prevent a referral from being recorded.
We keep information only as long as it is needed for the purpose we collected it. Lifetime course access does not mean we keep every record about your child forever.
We complete deletion requests from the live service within 30 days. A deleted child profile's progress and diplomas cannot be restored, and deleting those records does not itself cancel a paid place.
Review your family's details in the parent dashboard. For a copy of your information, a correction, a deletion, to withdraw consent, or for help with sharing, email bela@owlbryte.com from your account email. We may check that you are the account holder before releasing or changing anything.
California residents. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can ask what we hold about your family and ask us to delete it, and we never treat you differently for using these rights.
UK and EEA residents. You have the right to access, correct, delete and receive a copy of your information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Your information is processed in the United States. Contact us for details of the safeguards we use.
Wherever you live, if you are not happy with our answer you can complain to your local privacy regulator. We would rather fix it first, so please tell us.
Information is encrypted while it travels between your device and our service. PINs are stored as salted hashes. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and work only once. Payment details never touch our servers. Access to stored information is limited to the people who need it to run the academy.
No online service can promise perfect security. If a security breach ever affects your family's information, we tell you, and any regulator, as the law requires.
If this policy changes, we post the new date at the top and tell parents about important changes by email. If a change would need fresh permission for your child's information, we ask before making it.
